Artist statement:
As an outdoor enthusiast, I often paint wherever I vacation and travel. This usually includes some wonderful landscapes and interesting buildings. I try to capture and reflect my sense of connectedness with nature when I paint. Light and shadow as well as color and movement dominate most of my work, communicating the sense of energy that I feel in natural things and the environment.
Nature has always been a great springboard and take-off point in my work. I love to study and will continue to be a student of nature. As a painter I have used a variety of mediums such as watercolors, acrylics and oil paints, collage and mixed media. I enjoy them all and have learned from each. Currently I am painting with oils and enjoy the fluidness and versatility of this medium.
Whether I am painting with oil , acrylic or watercolor, I hope that what I see and portray in my work encourages viewers to look with appreciation and gratitude towards nature and you will look at the environment with a fresh perspective.
Picasso once said ‘All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.’ I taught elementary school art for 30 years and I find this statement so true!
